Tiramisu with a kilt. What in the world does that mean?
Let me tell you … it means utter deliciousness! That’s what.
I am not a big sweets person, but Tiramisu is my all time favorite dessert. I love that it isn’t too sweet, and has delicious ingredients. I have tried many versions of Tiramisu, even in Italy, and some were good and some were down right disgusting. I don’t know about you, but once I learn how to make something, it is hard for me to eat it other places because it isn’t ever how I like it or make it. In my humble opinion, one thing that makes Tiramisu delicious is when you can actually taste the rum and espresso in it. Am I alone in this?
Ok, so what in the world does the kilt have to do with Tiramisu? Kilts aren’t traditional Italian garb. Tiramisu isn’t thought of as a Scottish dessert. Well…let me give you a little back story. Have you ever accidentally stumble upon a food pairing that sounds disgusting from the outside, but once you try it you realize that it is absolutely divine? Some close friends of ours stumbled upon such a pairing. From the outside, it sounds odd, but once you dip your toe into the water you realize that it is amazing. The pairing I am speaking of is Oreo Cookies (which I am not a big fan of on their own) and Balvenie DoubleWood Single Malt Scotch Whiskey (we used the 12 year). All it takes is one small dip of the Oreo into your glass of Balvenie and enjoy! Let me tell you, this is the only way I will eat Oreos willingly. Mmmmm! It is the adult version of milk and cookies.
As we were enjoying after dinner Balvenie and Oreos, Linda (one of the friends who introduced us to this combo) and I came up with an amazing idea that we called Ghetto Tiramisu. Use Oreos in place of Ladyfingers and Balvenie in place of rum. Sounds delicious!
For months I was dying to try and make this dessert, but never really had the time to do so. Well, that all changed. I threw a going away party recently, and it was Italian themed, so I made Tiramisu for dessert. I had extra ingredients left over, and we were going over to Linda and Jeff’s house to watch Monday Night Football, so I decided that it was time to try and make Ghetto Tiramisu, or as I now call it Tiramisu with a Kilt.
I unfortunately didn’t take pictures while I made it, but let me say … it was DELICIOUS! This definitely isn’t something I would make all of the time, but man oh man was it yummy! It also freezes well, so if you make a large pan of it, throw the leftovers in the freezer to enjoy at a later date.
If you are a fan of Tiramisu, and you are a fan of scotch whiskey, I highly suggest you try this dessert!
And to make things more fun, go ahead and wear a kilt while eating it!
